Desktop PC – x58 Motherboard & DDR2 (And Gfx Card Question)?
From what I am told, DDR3 RAM is the only type of ram that’s compatible with an x58 Motherboard which is what I need to run my i7 CPU.
Are there any x58 Models that can run on DDR2 RAM?

Whats an affordable Gfx Card for gaming that will last me a few years with top performance? I am currently looking at the Radeon 4870 1Gig for $300 but if a gfx card that’s half the cost will do just as well in the short run then I wouldn’t mind that instead.
I am not a FPS fan and the games that I may play for a few years are coming out in 2009/2010, Darkfall/StarCraft2/Diablo3.
No, i7 uses DDR3, up to triple channel (that means single, dual, and triple channel is allowed). For DDR2 you’ll have to wait for Socket 11** (forget the last two numbers) which is the more mainstream version of the Nehalem (i7) processors. These may be labeled i5 or i6 to show that they’re not the same as the i7s.
An affordable graphics card might be the 9800GTX+
Newegg has it for $145 right now:

There’s also the HD4870 512mb. Newegg has this on 72 hour sale for $179 after rebate with promo code: EMCABCABE

The 4870 is definitely the better card though. The extra 512mb is good for post processing effects, but it’s definitely powerful to last you the next few years with those types of games.
